Rock Climbng in Sabah - (Article published on August 2005 Issue of Sabah Tourism Magazine)
Rock climbing is still a new pastime in Sabah. Although there have been many inquiries as to where rock climbing can be done here, Mount Kinabalu seems to be the only venue for such an activity. The local adventurers often make their way to the Outward Bound School in Kinarut for rock climbing, where proper training and step-by-step lessons are provided.
However, adventure enthusiasts will be pleased to know that there is now a new venue for rock climbing fans. Recently, Singaporean rock-climber, Wilfred Tok, decided to set up a solid platform to facilitate foreign climbers and to pique the interests of local folk to try out rock-climbing. Located in Inanam, participants begin the challenge with a trek from Kampung Kirrongu. The path leads them to a natural rockface where lessons and training begin. Participants will be taught the basics of rock climbing, from dressing right to correct way to scale up the hard surface. The night is spent camping by stream and a campfire is prepared. After a good night's rest, have a go at rock climbing and abseiling. The trill is incomparable!
